About Me:

About the Office: The Tax Listing Office is an independent office that operates with the Tax Listing Coordinator being a full time position and with a part time employee. I have been the Tax Listing Coordinator since 1997. I had previously been under the Register of Deeds for two years before becoming an independent office. Marlene Lueth has been assisting this office since the summer of 2006.

In 2001 there were approximately 4,900 transfers and splits. Not included in this number is the parcels created from 11 condominiums/subdivisions and 48 Certified Surveys recorded in 2001.

The duties of this office include the maintenance of all current ownership, address changes, legal descriptions, assigning of parcel numbers, splits, new plats and annexations. With this information updated daily, this office is able to provide current information to assessors, title companies, appraisal services, surveyors, realtors and the general public in real time. This department is also responsible for inputting all values for real and personal property assigned by the assessors. Other obligations assigned to this office are the printing of the real and personal property tax bills.

The Tax Listing Department offers current geographic locations for every parcel in the county. This office updates all the splits drawing them in by hand for all the changes as they occur. I then notify the Mapping department of the change and they update the computerized portion of the maps. Our parcel mapping is an in house project. The mapping department has a staff of four full time employees. They use ArcInfo and AutoCad with COGO software programs. They are trying to reach complete GPS Control in order to reach maximum efficiency when drawing in parcels within the County Coordinate Grid. Their anticipated timeline for completion is 2009.

Vilas County is currently working on Networking within the courthouse with parcel information and maps attached to each parcel. Hopefully in the next year we will be able to utilize this among each department. With this in place, it will provide valuable information to departments without having to visit each separate office for the information. The departments that use the information created from the Tax Listing Department are Zoning, Treasurers Office, Mapping, Forestry, Sheriffs Department, among others.

About the City/ County: Vilas County is approximately 652,067 acres in size, with 555,374 acres in land and 93,923 acres of waters. Vilas County harbors 1,320 lakes. We have fourteen township with only one city. Our parcel count is approximately 43,500 and constantly changing. Personal property county is approximately 2,120. Total equalized property valuations for the county is approximately $2,599,022,000.
