About the Office: Under direction of the Treasurer, the Real Property Coordinator maintains land records including the tax assessment database, updates and maintains digital parcel maps, and assists with the overall development of the Monroe County Land Information System. AutoCAD Map, ArcGIS & ArcView are used for GIS development and maintenance of the land information system and performing parcel mapping. The Windows version of the GCS Property Assessment & Taxation System running on Microsoft Access is being used to manage tax assessment records.

About the City/ County: Monroe County, created in 1854 from La Crosse County, is named after James Monroe, the 5th President of the United States. Located in southwest Wisconsin, the county seat is Sparta. There are two cities, eight villages and twenty-four towns.
