About Me: I started working for Dane County in 1985 in the Surveyor's Dept. and later moved to Property Listing. I served as the WRPLA President in 2001 and hosted the ASM in 1997. I have also served several terms as Vice President. I enjoy my family, gardening, baking, reading and travel.
About the Office: Property Listing is part of the Planning and Development Dept. We have 2 mapping/listing technicians who list and map the changes within a couple of days of the documents being recorded in the Register of Deeds. Approximately 13,000 ownership changes are processed and 5,000 new parcels are created yearly. There are 2 support staff who help with transfer returns, sorting documents, and entering assessment changes after BOR. I process the data exchange with the local clerks and assessors as well as run all requested reports and digital files. All of the preliminary assessments submitted by the assessor must be in a digital format. Along with the digital exchange with the assessor's, we have a website that allows the local municipality to enter address changes. 2004 was the first year for a project where the clerks could submit their milrate worksheets from an internet application. We also supply an excel worksheet with special assessments and charges that the clerk can maintain and email back. I'm hoping to also have this switched to a web application in the near future. About the City/ County: Dane County has played a brilliant and outstanding role in the history of Wisconsin. Only half a century after the landing of the Pilgrims, Marquette and Joliet navigated the Wisconsin River which borders Dane County. Another century and a half passed before the United States Government took possession of Dane County from the Native Americans, following the Blackhawk War. The first Wisconsin territorial legislature, meeting in 1836, created Dane County. The same legislature voted to establish the capitol of the territory in the wooded area between the third and fourth lakes in the chain of lakes situated in the southern part of Wisconsin. The christener of Dane County, Territorial Judge James Doty, named the capitol City of Madison in honor of the nation's fourth President. The county was named for Nathan Dane of Massachusetts, chairman of the committee which drew up the ordinance of 1787 for the government of the Northwest Territory. In 1839 Dane County was organized as a separate governmental unit. Dane County consists of 61 municipalities. There are 8 Cities, 19 Villages and 34 Towns. The City of Madison Property Listing is part of the City Assessor's Office.
