About the City/ County: Burnett County is located in the Indianhead Region of Western Wisconsin. At its widest points it extends 36 mi. North to South and 42 mi East to West. Approximately 64% of the county is forested and we have the 9th largest county forest in the state. Burnett County's terrain is gently hilled and lies 760 feet above sea level in the SW to approximately 1500 feet above sea level in the SE. We have 3 Villages; the largest being Grantsburg with a population of 1400 (2004). The County's first stop light was installed in the Village of Siren in 2000.
With 508 named lakes, (and many more un-named) Burnett County's focus has turned more toward tourism than farming. Burnett can boast of their pristine lakes and waterways, nature preserves, bike trails and State, County and Historical Parks. The St. Croix Band of Chippewa Indians, whose lands in this county comprise 5 of the 7 band's communities operate Burnett County's only casino in Danbury.
