About the Office: My office comes under, and is located within the Land Information Department. I work with the County Surveyor, Land Information Technician, and our GIS Specialist.
There are 36 municipalities in Barron County: 25 townships, 7 villages and 4 cities. To achieve accurate listings of all property in the county is a cooperative effort of multiple government entities, the public, and those the public employ to ensure clear title and clear property boundaries. The annual assessment process is busy as well as tax season. I deal with local officials in preparing the necessary information to calculate property taxes and print the tax bills.
The Land Information Department strives for a work flow that allows us to incorporate new parcels in the the County's GIS soon after they are recorded. TerraModel and ArcView are used to draw and display all parcel mapping. We are enjoying new orthophotography completed in 2008.
About the City/ County: Barron County is the destination of visitors from the states of Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota - as well as many others. The lakes are the main attraction in the summer, and hunting in the fall. Farming is being overtaken by tourism and light manufacturing as the main economic functions in the county, although there is still a predominantly rural character to the landscape. Change continues as Barron County moves from being a rural economy to a recreational/service/light manufacturing economy.
