The property listing for
the City of Stevens Point is performed in the Assessor’s Office. The
duties of property listing consist of reviewing all documents for
current ownership and legal descriptions. We review legal descriptions
for accuracy, update parcel maps and maintain a master assessment roll
to reflect all changes, assign and maintain the City’s parcel
numbering system, process certified survey maps, splits and
annexations, maintain a personal property master file and prepare an
annual real estate and personal property assessment roll.
Our assessment functions include discovery, investigation, compiling
and analyzing sales information. We process building permit
information and prepare building sketches, perform field reviews,
develop assessments, prepare and mail assessment notices, and compile
reports for the Department of Revenue. We also develop and maintain
mobile home assessments and monthly parking fees.
The City of Stevens Point utilizes Global Valuation System (GVS)
software to maintain our assessment information. In October, 2001 we
implemented a digital imaging system. Our computerized parcel maps are
presently maintained by Planning and Zoning via Portage County’s
Geographical Information System (GIS). However, the maintenance of the
GIS maps for the City will be handled within the Assessor’s Office in
the future.
The City of Stevens Point has a population of 24,698 and it covers
16.81 square miles. We have 145 subdivisions and 3 industrial parks.
We handle approximately 800 real property transactions per year and
100 splits. In addition to real property listing, our office develops
assessments and maintains improvement data on approximately 7,700
parcels, 1,300 personal property accounts and 300 mobile homes. |
