About Mary Lou : I started working for Fond du Lac County on July 6, 1966 in the Register of Deeds Office. I worked 4 1/2 years in that office and then stayed home for five years with our children. I returned to the county on October 10, 1975 in the Tax Listing Office and have been here ever since. My husband and I have been married for 36 years and have two children. I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren. I like to read and bowl.
About the office: In addition to the Real Property Lister our office has one full-time and one part-time position. We also have a full-time cartographer position.
All of our county has been digitized. As new certified survey maps and plats are recorded they are entered with the COGO method.
About Fond du Lac county: Fond du Lac County has 21 Townships, 9 Villages and 2 Cities. The county park system includes eleven county parks and a public hunting ground that together total more than 1,200 acres. The park system includes pristine wetlands, native prairie, woodlots, spring brooks and lakeshore. Park visitors may enjoy boating including overnight docking, windsurfing, swimming, camping, fishing, picnicking, hiking and mountain biking. The county recreation trail system includes four year-round, multiple purpose recreation trails providing more than 40 miles of hiking, running, cross-country skiing and bicycling opportunites. Additionally, 200 miles of state-funded snowmobile trails open each winter for local and long distance snowmobiling. Fond du Lac County owns and manages a 27-hole championship golf course.
Fond du Lac County is located within an hour's drive from the major cities of Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay. Fond du Lac County offers endless opportunities for the year-round outdoors lover. The landscape consists of rolling countryside, lush forest and sparkling lakeshores. The City of Fond du Lac is situated on the shores of Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest inland lake.
Diversifed employes in Fond du Lac County employ a few people to more than 3,000 individuals. The largest employer is Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick and a major manufacturer of marine propulsion equipment.
