| About :
I began working for Barron County in 1994, designated to
work in both the Treasurer’s Office and Property Lister’s
Office. The greatest majority of my time was spent in the
Lister’s office over the years. I began in the Real Property
Lister’s position at the beginning of 2006. |
About
the office: This office comes under the Land
Information Department. As Barron County attempts to cross
train staff and co-locate offices, my office has moved and
is now located between the treasurer’s office and the other
members of the land information department. When I took the
lister’s position my former 93% position was not filled. Our
GIS specialist (Rhonda) is taking care of property splits
and the treasurer’s staff takes on some duties formerly
accomplished solely by this office. Rhonda and I attempt to
meet with the Zoning Administrator on a weekly basis; we
have found this to be a very effective tool in getting quick
approval for splits, and a “plan” to communicate issues
regarding those land divisions that are not compliant.
With the Land Information staff, we have a great work flow
that allows us to incorporate new parcels into the County’s
GIS soon after they are recorded. TerraModel and ArcView are
used to draw and display all parcel mapping. Ours and many
other county offices are enjoying the benefits of new
orthophotography obtained in spring 2005. All municipalities
have been mapped and we hope to have a GIS website available
to the public in the near future. |
| About county:
Barron County is the destination of visitors from the states
of Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota - as well as many others.
The lakes are the main attraction in the summer, and hunting
in the fall. Farming is being overtaken by tourism and light
manufacturing as the main economic functions in the county,
although there is still a predominantly rural character to
the landscape. Barron County has 25 townships, 7 villages and 4 cities (Rice Lake
being the largest). It is rapidly
changing from a rural economy to a recreational/service/light
manufacturing economy. |
